The Project
In 1978 Naval Architect Javier Visiers did his first ocean sailing regatta in a 43-foot boat designed by himself. After that, 3 Whitbread Round the World Races, and many other professional ocean racing events gave Javier the needed experience to perform his most challenging project: take his wife around the world.
As a designer careful consideration to safety and comfort was paramount when he made the decision of the type of vessel for the adventure, and finally a 47 Lagoon Catamaran was the best option.
It took them nearly 2 years to circumnavigate the world, and they did so being part of the 1999 Millennium Odyssey regatta, since Javier saw it as an advantage not to sail alone.
Many friends enjoyed parts of that trip and kept asking for a new opportunity to repeat, and this is how and why Miles and Dreams was founded…
Miles and Dreams around the world will allow people to enjoy to take part in an adventure that usually requires a much higher investment, and previous sailing experience to make it truly enjoyable and “unforgettable”. You can rent a cabin for the whole circumnavigation or just for a specific leg or legs your are interested in. Both boats will always sail together to ensure all crewmembers and participants a high level of safety and social interaction.
The Team & Organization
Carlos Peris, an experienced sailor with over 10 transatlantic crossings and more than 20 years working as a professional sailor, is the co-founder of the project. The conceptualization of the project and the sales and promotion aspects have been supported with the experience of Markus Wiegand and Nicolas Visiers, both also experienced sailors.
Each vessel will have a 2 people professionally qualified crew, who will be responsible for the navigation and safety on board as well as the much needed support for the practice of all leisure activities such as scuba diving, waterskiing, etc…
